So, how do cat cafés actually work?

What even is a cat café?

A coffee shop with a room full of cats. You pay a small entry fee, you sit around with the cats for 30–60 minutes, you buy a drink if you want. The cats either live there or rotate in from a partner shelter. They're used to visitors and mostly don't care about you.

How much does it actually cost?

Usually $10–$20 for a 30-to-60-minute session. A few charge by the half-hour, a few are completely free (they make money on drinks instead). Food and drinks are always extra.

Can I actually take a cat home?

Often, yes. Most cafés partner with a local rescue, and the cats in the room are up for adoption. Standard adoption fees run $50–$150 and cover spay/neuter, vaccines, and microchip. 99 of the cafés we've listed do this.

How long can I hang out with the cats?

Usually 30–60 minutes per session. You can sometimes extend at the door if it's not full. Weekends book up — reserve ahead. Fun fact: the cats do sleep a lot, so midday is chill, early evening is when they're actually awake.
